This annual meeting focussing on the research programmes conducted by the ONCFS and the Tour du Valat in the Camargue was held on 24 May 2018, and brought together some 60 hunters, farmers, natural area managers, and other stakeholders in the Camargue interested in the research and management operations conducted by the two organisations on wildlife and their habitats.
After a presentation of the results of the aerial water bird counts carried out in 2017-2018, the subsequent presentations and discussions focused on the adaptive management of duck & goose hunting quotas, rice fields, the reintroduction of the European wild rabbit, and water management in the Camargue.
The exchange of ideas enabled the various people involved (hunters, natural area managers, and scientists) to speak together in a friendly atmosphere and express their differing wiewpoints.
