The WetNet project is an Interreg Med project that aims to improve the effectiveness of conservation policies in relation to wetlands protected in the Mediterranean area.
The project tests the methodology of wetland contracts in 6 European Mediterranean countries and facilitates the dissemination of mechanisms for the integration and coordination of participatory governance in protected wetlands
The project pilot site in France is the Verdier Marshes, where the Tour du Valat works in partnership with the local Verdier Marshes Association
In the framework of the WetNet project, the Tour du Valat is participating in the organization of a summer school on wetland contracts as voluntary agreements for stakeholder engagement and empowerment in Caorle (Venice, Italy) from June 3-8, 2019.
The objectives of this training are:
- to build capacity on sustainable governance addressing target groups involved in wetland management,
- to facilitate the uptake of the Wetland Contract model at the European Mediterranean scale,
- to foster the coordination and networking of European Mediterranean wetlands.
The summer school targets a variety of participants including national and regional decision makers on wetland management, managing directors and technical officers of Mediterranean wetlands, international NGOs members active in wetland management, practitioners and researchers on wetland governance issues and graduate students in wetland governance related topics. There are 4 invited participants from France participating in the summer school.
