The restored Cassaïre marsh is the result of a project to recreate a typical Camargue Mediterranean ecosystem. The project was initiated in 2007 by the Amis du Vigueirat and the Tour du Valat.
Property of the Conservatoire du Littoral and managed by the Association des Amis des Marais du Vigueirat, this marsh is a showcase site whose ultimate aim is to demonstrate that restoring a wetland can help maintain and increase biodiversity, while at the same time welcoming other activities such as livestock breeding or hunting, and thus enabling farms to diversify their income.
Today, this project has been given a new impulse thanks to the support of WWF France. Coordinated by the Tour du Valat in partnership with the Friends of the Marais du Vigueirat, this new phase combines scientific monitoring of the site with the development of new management and enhancement tools.
