Financed by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), the “Monitoring of waterbirds in North Africa for the conservation of wetland areas” project was set up by the Tour du Valat in partnership with the Tunisian Association “Les Amis des Oiseaux” (Friends of Birds )/BirdLife Tunisia, the Algerian National Ornithology Association, GREPON/BirdLife Morocco, and the Libyan Society for Birds.
Its aim was to improve waterbird censusing capacity in North Africa, and also to raise awareness among local people of the ecological and socio-economic importance of wetlands, in a region where they are subject to heavy anthropic pressures (urbanisation, agriculture, etc).
A film has just been broadcasted, which summarizes this project that just ended; you can watch it clicking here.
