This article, which was published in October 2015 in the Evolution journal, results of the collaboration of the Tour du Valat in the projects of the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Cancer research of Montpellier (www.creec.fr).
It deals with the mechanisms that have been selected during our evolution to limit the impact of oncogenic processes on our survival and reproduction. These protective mechanisms have a positive effect but can also be considered as negative since, by mitigating the effects of cancer, they have prevented the elimination of vulnerabilities to these pathologies from our genomes over generation.
