The Mediterranean Wetlands Observatory (MWO) is launching a new collection of thematic files. The first issue focuses on biodiversity and assesses the status and trends of Mediterranean wetlands species.
The MWO coordinated by the Tour du Valat is launching a new series of thematic issues. The first technical report of the MWO – “Mediterranean wetlands outlook”- that presents a synthetic overview of wetlands on a basin scale was published last February. Following this important publication, the new collection of thematic issues aims to give details on the analysis of the central topics studied in the report and to provide substantive data on them.
This first issue provides detailed information on the values of wetland biodiversity in the Mediterranean, including the status and trends of species conservation, the threats they face and possible solutions to reverse negative trends.
The results are illustrated with case studies of five key sites in the Mediterranean: Lake Ickeul (Tunisia), the Camargue (France), the Prespa Lakes (Albania, FYR of Macedonia and Greece), Gediz Delta (Turkey) and Aammiq marshes (Lebanon).
