As we celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity, a rather strange species has been spotted at the Tour du Valat: the “Pheuillus”. These plant-based beings are strange birds indeed, and we decided to allow the public to come and visit us to find out more about them.
Sunday 28 October witnessed a series of unique visits to the Tour du Valat, assisted by the Le Phun theatre company. Two lectures were also given on the theme of biodiversity and the Camargue. Samples from the Ciel ! Ma Camargue exhibition were also on show.
An arts project bringing place and people together
Working at the invitation of the Citron Jaune national street art centre, since March this year the Le Phun Company has installed their plant beings in and around the Tour du Valat, the le Verdier marshes and the nearby village of Le Sambuc. The idea behind this project is to build bridges between locals, tourists and scientists using the themes of biodiversity and wetlands, and to emphasize the importance of the locality and the people who live there. The project will continue until the Envies Rhônements festival in July 2011, when a special event will be organised to mark its culmination.
The Pheuillus will then migrate to their new quarters.
