The second Conference for Young Researchers will be held on 28, 29, and 30 April 2014 at the Tour du Valat, in Camargue (Southern France). Its main objective is to create a scientific dynamic around the Mediterranean basin on the theme of conservation sciences.
In 2011, the Tour du Valat, research centre for the conservation of Mediterranean wetlands, launched a cycle of conferences aimed at young researchers on conservation sciences in the Mediterranean region, in close collaboration with the CEFE-CNRS (Centre of Functional Ecology and Evolution) in Montpellier, and the Mediterranean Biodiversity and Ecology Institute (IMBE) in Marseille.
The exchange of scientific knowledge and experience will enable participants to confront current conservation challenges. The conference aims at scientific excellence by inviting speakers of the highest order. It will be chaired by Jacques Blondel, Emeritus Research Director at the CNRS, and will include a selection of high-quality presentations
The conference will also stimulate informal discussion between the young scientists and the invited speakers, while benefiting from the Tour du Valat estate and its great biological diversity. It will also be an excellent opportunity to promote discussion around the Mediterranean basin, by favouring the participation of young researchers from the southern Mediterranean.
In addition, this second conference will be of particular importance because the Tour du Valat, founded in 1954, will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2014: six decades during which we have actively contributed to the training of several hundred young researchers, of all nationalities, in the field of wetland conservation.
The Scientific Committee will be made up of Dr Jacques Blondel, Emeritus Research Director at the CNRS and President of the Committee, Dr Arnaud Béchet (Tour du Valat), Dr Arnaud Besnard (CEFE-CNRS Montpellier), Pr. Mohamed Chaieb (University of Sfax, Tunisia), Dr Patrick Grillas (Tour du Valat), Dr Frédéric Médail (IMBE, Aix-Marseille), Alexandre Millon (PhD student at IMBE, Aix-Marseille) and Guillaume Papuga (PhD student CEFE-CNRS, Montpellier).
The Organisational Committee will be made up of Patrick Grillas and Florence Daubigney of the Tour du Valat
