On 1st February the new Wetlands Action Plan was presented by the Secretary of State for Ecology, Chantal Jouanno, which will serve as the roadmap for French ecologists during the period 2010-2012.
This action plan is the result of a year’s work by the National Wetlands Group and is structured around 6 major themes:
- sustainable agriculture
- wetlands in urbanised environments
- public measures
- the management and restoration of wetlands
- research and knowledge
- training and awareness-raising.
The Tour du Valat was very involved in drawing up the plan, rans one of the 6 subject areas and contributed to the others.
The new Action Plan takes over from the one launched in 1995; it expresses a renewed political desire on the part of the State and invites everyone involved to commit to it and increase its impact. The National Wetlands Group uses the five-sector governance model (State, local authorities, companies, NGOs, unions) resulting from the huge nationwide forum the Grenelle de l’Environnement, enabling constructive dialogue between stakeholders previously more used to confrontation.
