The Friends of the Tour du Valat Association came into existence at the Tour du Valat’s 60th anniversary celebration on 1 July, 2014. Its goal is to unite the amazingly talented people who have participated in Tour du Valat activities over the past six decades (employees, trainees, scientists, and colleagues from public and private organisations). To that end, we will do our best to establish the best conditions for exchanging, sharing, and producing knowledge and experience in the fields of conservation, protection, expertise, and promoting and managing natural heritage in Mediterranean wetlands. These activities will support the Tour du Valat Foundation and help it to achieve its mission, which is to halt the loss and degradation of Mediterranean wetlands and their natural resources, while restoring them and promoting their wise use.
On 28 June 2015, 30 members gathered for the annual meeting at the Tour du Valat. Vera Michalski presented the President’s report and the activity report, and then Hubert du Plessix, the Treasurer of the Association, made the financial report, which was followed by a general report for 2014. Prospects are promising for 2015, in particular thanks to the recent recruitment of Muriel Gevrey, who will be managing the Association. Her involvement is sure to have a positive impact on our activities and help us to achieve our objectives.
Decisions were also made concerning the types of memberships and fees. Basic membership fees were dropped to €20, and a €30 family membership was established, as well as a reduced rate individual membership for €10. In addition, our premium membership was maintained, with a minimum donation of €100.

This meeting also gave us the chance to think together about how we can develop the Association in the upcoming months. Small workshops were organised for members, who participated very enthusiastically and proposed many new ideas.
