Research interests and expertise
My research primarily aims to understand the factors influencing the non-breeding movements of migratory birds. I explore the interplay between internal motivations and environmental conditions, with a special focus on the impact of climate and land-use changes on their spatial patterns. To achieve these objectives, I employ a comprehensive approach that includes fieldwork, tracking data analysis, and remote sensing techniques.
Currently, my research is centered on identifying and characterizing key staging sites within the Mediterranean basin, particularly for water birds. This work is crucial for guiding conservation efforts because many bird species are expected to establish non-breeding areas in North Africa and Southern Europe, some of which have already shown unexpected behavior in this regard.
