A comparative view of 20 years of experimentation in the Camargue
The Camargue is probably the place in France that has the greatest number of and most varied protected natural areas, ranging from the Camargue National Reserve, which was established in 1927, to the vast site of the former Beauduc saltworks, which was recently purchased by the French coastal protection agency.
What conclusions can we draw from the 20 years of research conducted to inform public policies on biodiversity wetlands? What are the research topics, and what contributions does this research make to site managers concerning the issues emerging in the Camargue? Can our results be applied to other wetlands in the Mediterranean region?
You will find the answers to all your questions in the new information booklet in our ‘Science & Management’ series, which compares 20 years of experimentation in the Camargue.

Joint management of a marsh in the Camargue
The number of natural area conservation and management projects that involve local citizens has increased since the 1990s, yet their success remains limited. The Tour du Valat itself took up the challenge to develop such a project in the Camargue, by offering the inhabitants of the hamlet of Le Sambuc the chance to participate in the concerted upkeep and stewardship of a marsh.
What ‘concertation tools’ and what activities were created and set up to mobilise the inhabitants? What conclusions can be drawn from this joint management project?
You will find the answers to all your questions in the new information booklet on the joint management of a marsh in the Camargue in our ‘Science & Management’ series.

The European Eel
The European Eel is a migratory fish with a unique life cycle. Still very mysterious in many ways, this species has been listed as critically endangered by the IUCN since 2008.
What is its range? What are the potential causes of its decline? What measures have been taken in Europe and particularly by the Tour du Valat to protect this species?
You will find the answers to all your questions in the new information booklet on the European Eel in our ‘Science & Management’ series.
