Natur’Adapt Sud – Adaptation de la gestion de 13 réserves naturelles de la région Sud au changement climatique

After 18 months of close collaboration between nature area managers in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and facilitating organisations, the Natur’Adapt Sud project came to a close in February 2026. This ambitious project has resulted in a number of practical tools, presented below, and in a stronger regional momentum to tackle climate challenges.

Given the impacts of climate change on the natural world, it had became essential for natural area managers to address these issues and incorporate them into their management practices.
Using the Natur’Adapt methodology, this project – launched in 2024 and coordinated by the Tour du Valat, in partnership with CEN PACA, RNF and the CCAA – aimed to support nature reserve managers in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in their efforts to adapt to climate change.
Seven national nature reserves and six regional nature reserves took part in the project.

Project objectives

The main objective was to integrate climate change issues into the management of nature reserves in the PACA region, using the Natur’Adapt methodology, developed during the LIFE project of the same name in 2018–2023.

The project was driven by a strong focus on networking, bringing together managers from 13 sites and 11 organisations.

Actions & methodology

The project formed a direct continuation of the work carried out during the LIFE Natur’Adapt project, led by RNF from 2018 to 2023. The actions planned as part of the project in the South Region therefore utilised the tools and methods developed during the LIFE project, such as the Natur’Adapt guide, the naturadapt.com platform and the COOC Natur’Adapt training course for managers. Consequently, a climate change adaptation approach was implemented in each nature reserve, resulting in the production of an assessment of vulnerability to and opportunities arising from climate change, as well as a management adaptation plan.

Please note: the documents provided below are the result of work carried out by the management and support teams at Natur’Adapt Sud, and have not yet undergone the full standard validation process (Management, Reserve Advisory Committee, Scientific Council or other bodies).

Project workshops

On Tuesday 24 September 2024, the project’s key stakeholders — project officers, managers, and technical and financial partners — gathered at the Tour du Valat for an initial day of work and discussions on the implementation of the Natur’Adapt methodology across the participating sites.

On Thursday 15 May 2025, the Gorges de Daluis Regional Nature Reserve hosted participants and partners from the Natur’Adapt Sud project for the project’s second meeting. It was an opportunity to share each party’s progress and discuss the next steps in their climate change adaptation efforts.

On Thursday 4 December 2025, the third and final meeting took place in Peipin (04) [40] following 18 months of collaborative work, with the aim of sharing progress on adaptation initiatives, as well as reviewing the project’s achievements and looking ahead to its conclusion at the end of February 2026.

The project was completed at the end of February 2026.
