{"id":22450,"date":"2019-02-13T18:04:41","date_gmt":"2019-02-13T17:04:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/?p=22450"},"modified":"2019-03-28T14:49:12","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T13:49:12","slug":"a-look-back-at-the-2019-tour-du-valat-open-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/en\/evenements-en\/a-look-back-at-the-2019-tour-du-valat-open-day\/","title":{"rendered":"A look back at the 2019 Tour du Valat Open Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just as it does every year, the Tour du Valat opened its doors to the public so people could discover the <a href=\"https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tour du Valat Nature Reserve<\/a> and celebrate wetlands on almost the same day the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramsar.org\/about\/the-ramsar-convention-and-its-mission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ramsar Convention<\/a> was signed in Iran back in 1971. This year\u2019s theme was &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldwetlandsday.org\/en\/welcome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wetlands and Climate Change<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>The grey and windy weather at the start of the day did not discourage the 150 people who came for a visit in the morning. A few brave souls were present right from the start, and headed out to discover the nature trails. Patrick Grillas led a guided visit that enthralled a large number of participants\u2014&#8221;In the footsteps of the branches of the Rhone at the Tour du Valat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-21996 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/DSC_0140-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/DSC_0140-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/DSC_0140-640x428.jpg 640w, https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/DSC_0140-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/DSC_0140-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/DSC_0140-120x80.jpg 120w, https:\/\/tourduvalat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/DSC_0140-1320x884.jpg 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 98vw, (max-width: 1199px) 64vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More than 40 of the visitors attended a talk by \u00c9lie Gaget about French Southern and Antarctic Lands. His special focus on the Kerguelen Islands enabled those present to learn more about this zone\u2014practically devoid of human activities\u2014and the scientific monitoring activities conducted there.<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, nearly 100 more visitors arrived. 30 of them had the pleasure of discovering the history of the Tour du Valat Ranch and Estate during Olivier Pineau\u2019s guided visit. It was displayed for the first time ever to the general public during Open Day, and was greatly appreciated by the visitors.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The illustrator<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Girard-Cyril-dessinateur-1450575105233588\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Cyril Girard<\/a> and the photographer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.babelio.com\/auteur\/Jean-Emmanuel-Roche\/211103\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jean Roch\u00e9<\/a> were present for a book-signing event, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/roger.merlin.754\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roger Merlin<\/a>, the chef at the Mas des Colverts titillated the taste buds of curious gourmets with his culinary creations made from various products harvested in wetlands.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%;
