Initiated by the RM&C Water Agency, overseen by the P\u00f4le relais lagunes m\u00e9diterran\u00e9ennes and written by O. Cizel, the 2006 legal guidelines \u201cProtection et gestion des zones humides – R\u00e9vision du SDAGE RMC\u201d (Protection and management of wetlands – Revision of the Rh\u00f4ne-Mediterranean and Corsican master plan for the refurbishment and management of water resources \u2013 SDAGE RMC) has been updated and is now available. <\/strong><\/p>\n

A number of regulatory developments, such as the Law on the Development of Rural Territories, the Grenelle de l\u2019environnement national environment forum and the revision of the SDAGE master plans, have enabled many new tools to be developed to improve how wetlands and aquatic areas are taken into consideration in water management and land-use planning. This revised work includes all the latest regulatory changes (up to December 2009). It can be downloaded from the P\u00f4le-relais lagunes website<\/a>, and is also on an interactive CD-ROM.<\/p>\n

A complete, instructive and user-friendly guide <\/strong><\/p>\n

The guidelines are organised in 14 thematic chapters each tackling different facets of wetlands: delimitation, administration, types of protection, impacts.<\/div>\n
The work provides commentaries on nearly 500 legislative and regulatory texts, with additional information on jurisprudence, references to complementary legal dispositions, proposed reforms, the results of litigation and statistics. Despite the density of information, it is pleasant to read and illustrated by numerous diagrams, tables and maps, together with icons to instantly view the type of information provided.<\/div>\n
The guidelines are intended to be interactive with direct links to figures and textboxes. The bibliography, organised by subject covered, is also interactive with numerous cross-references to recent works and websites.<\/div>\n

The guide would be useful for anybody seeking information in the field of the law applicable to wetlands. It may answer the questions of legal practitioners, and also those of managers, land-owners, institutional employees, environmental consultants, and elected officials.<\/div>\n
