This article was published in the Journal for Nature Conservation in April 2019.
It stems from a collaboration between the University of Montpellier, the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels Languedoc-Roussillon (CEN-LR), the Conservatoire du littoral and the Tour du du Valat, in the framework of the H2020 Ecopotential [1] project.
The article deals with the evolution of the salinas in the French Mediterranean coast since the Second World War.
It also concerns the future of these sites after the salt production activity, with the protection of the natural and cultural heritage being a challenge faced with the rising of the sea-level.
