New article – Fasciola hepatica-Pseudosuccinea columella interaction: effect of increasing parasite doses, successive exposures and geographical origin on the infection outcome of susceptible and naturally-resistant snails from Cuba

This article was published in open access in the Parasite & Vectors journal in October 2018.

It deals with an experimental study of infected molluscs in Cuba where they are the vectors of the common liver fluke Fasciola hepatica. The study aims at assessing the resistance of some of those molluscs to this parasite, and, for those amongst them showing sensitivity, the consequences of being infected by a range of other parasites.

The parasites present in the Camargue kill a great number of some sensitive populations of these molluscs, most likely because they have not coevolved with this strain.
