Article – Avian Malaria is Absent in Juvenile Colonial Herons (Ardeidae) but not Culex pipiens Mosquitoes in the Camargue, Southern France

This article, which was published in the Waterbirds journal in December 2015, deals with the prevalence of the “avian malaria” amongst several heron species that can be found in the Camargue (Southern France).

Results show that despite favourable environmental conditions and the presence of several infected vectors, the chicks from these colonies do not carry the parasites that are responsible for the avian malaria.
