World Fish Migration Day [1] took place on Saturday 21 April 2018.
On this occasion, we invited the public to the first screening of the video of the talk (in French) “The incredible history of the European Eel (Anguilla anguilla),” given by Delphine Nicolas, a junior research scientist at the Tour du Valat.
It was recorded on 4 February 2018, during the Tour du Valat Open Day.
Salmon, eel, sturgeon, lamprey, and shad – migratory fish move around or migrate over a wide range of distances during their lives to complete their life cycle.
Most of these species have experienced a continuous decline in numbers in recent decades. The causes of this decline are most often known, and include habitat loss and disruption, pollution, and overexploitation by fishing.
The aim of this worldwide event is to raise public awareness about migratory fish, water quality in rivers, and ecological continuity.
