News #4: Publication of "Conservation Sciences"

Biodiversity is imperilled throughout the world, and we need to draw on concrete theoretical and practical knowledge from all fields of science to ensure its conservation.

That is the subject of the book entitled Conservation sciences, recently published by De Boeck, and co-authored by Michel Gauthier-Clerc (Head of the Species conservation and global changes Department at the Tour du Valat until 2013), François Mesléard (Director of Research at the Tour du Valat), and Jacques Blondel (biologist, emeritus Director of Research at the CNRS, and President of the advisory board of the Camargue biosphere reserve).

370 pages long, it contains numerous illustrations, a complete glossary, special sections on specific studies and practical cases, as well as a large number of concrete examples. It is intended to be used for teaching, but also for the general public interested in conservation issues. You can find it at all good bookshops, and on the publisher’s website (cf. link to the right).

The Tour du Valat contributed to it actively through the participation of some of its research scientists. They summed up the knowledge they have acquired via numerous conservation projects in which this research centre has participated since it was opened in 1954, both in the Camargue and throughout the Mediterranean Basin.
