News 2: Publication of the Crau-Camargue-Alpilles 2007-2012 Ornithology report

For its 25th publication since 1950, for the first time ever, the Crau-Camargue-Alpilles Ornithology report has been published directly in an electronic version by the Tour du Valat and the Camargue National Reserve, on their websites. The Bird Protection League (LPO PACA), Camargue Regional Natural Park, and Natural Area Conservatory (CEN PACA) are three other key partners that helped to make this work become reality.

This report assesses the bird sightings made throughout the area concerned, on the basis of nearly 400,000 data items collected for 2007-2012. It is worth noting that the participative tools for gathering data from sightings made by naturalists have enabled a considerable increase in the amount of data collected. As a point of comparison, only 13,000 data items were processed for the 1990-1994 Ornithology report. In addition, the use of these tools has for the first time also enabled us to focus on two neighbouring territories in the Camargue (the Crau and the Alpilles), whereas the previous reports concerned the entire Rhone Delta.

Beyond its scientific interest, this publication is a true collaborative effort both locally and regionally, between numerous organisations and contributors who love this territory and its avifauna,  which has proven natural heritage and international value.
