Edited by Jacques Blondel, Director of Research at the CNRS, and President of the Scientific Council of the Camargue biosphere reserve, Guy Barruol, archaeologist, historian, and Honorary Director of Research at the CNRS, and Régis Vianet, ecologist and Joint Director of the Camargue Regional Natural Park, nearly 150 individuals from various backgrounds and a wide range of disciplines (scientists, natural area managers, farmers and breeders, architects, etc), amongst which numerous members of the Tour du Valat Team, joined forces to write this book, which will be an authoritative work on the Camargue.

This work is divided in six parts: 1) the natural environment, 2) the exploitation of local resources, 3) the history of the Camargue since the Antiquity, 4) artistic and cultural aspects, 5) transformations and threats facing this territory and the responses to them, and 6) an overview of the principal towns and villages in the Camargue, from the Grau-du-Roi to Fos-sur-Mer. The book also features 350 illustrations and 250 summaries.

On 17 October, the Encyclopaedia of the Camargue, by Buchet-Castel publishers, will be released (in French).
