The 3rd Young Scientists Conference  on conservation sciences in the Mediterranean region will take place from 22 to 24 March, 2016 at the Tour du Valat. It is being organised by the Tour du Valat in partnership with the CEFE – CNRS (Montpellier) and the IMBE (Aix-Marseille).

You can find all the relevant information concerning the programme and practical details of this event at www.medconservationsciences-conference.org [1], or in the brochure to the right.

On this occasion, the Alan Johnson prize for conservation biology will be awarded for the best applied research project for biodiversity conservation in the Mediterranean region. This €1000 prize will be awarded every two years at the Young Scientists Conference by a scientific committee jury.

Alan Johnson (1941-2014) was one of the true pioneers at the Tour du Valat. He spent more than 50 years studying Greater Flamingos in the Camargue and the Mediterranean region. In the 1970s, he imagined and achieved concrete actions to protect this species and make it nest again in the Camargue. Thanks to his efforts, the Greater Flamingo now flourishes throughout the Mediterranean Basin.
