Initiative 2 – Agropolis Dossier on Biodiversity

As part of its “2010: the year of biodiversity”, Agropolis has decided to devote its next dossier to biodiversity. Since Montpellier is a leading scientific hub for biodiversity research, all the laboratories, teams, and research units that comprise the Acropolis community took part in the cataloguing project. Other laboratories, in Banyuls, Montpellier, and Perpignan, as well as outside organisations, such as the Tour de Valat and Telabotanica also helped to compile the dossier.

The Agropolis dossiers series is published by Agropolis International in French and English as part of its mission to promote the scientific community’s skills. Each publication is dedicated to a major scientific issue. Several issues have already been covered, including aquatic ecosystems, societies and sustainable development, and spatial information for the environment and territories.

The dossiers aim to improve the various partners’ knowledge of the skills and potential within Agropolis, as well as to further the exchange of ideas and information and promote scientific and technical collaboration.

The Biodiversity dossier will be available in autumn on the Agropolis website [1].
Table of contents:
1 – Origins and evolution of biodiversity
2 – Functional biodiversity
3 – Societies and biodiversity
4 – Biodiversity models and scenarios
5 – Biodiversity: a science for citizens
2,000 copies of the issue will be published in French and English—the same number as for previous issues—and will be widely circulated.
