The Tour du Valat, through the presence of its Director General Jean Jalbert, will attend the 2016 World Conservation Congress from 1 to 10 September in Honolulu, in the Polynesian archipelago of Hawai’i (United States).
Thousands of conservationists committed to local or global conservation issues will gather during 10 days in this breathtaking but fragile natural environment, in the age of climate and biodiversity urgencies.
As a member of the IUCN the Tour du Valat will participate in numerous official and informal events and gatherings, debates and votes, in order to have the voice of Mediterranean wetlands and their inhabitants better heard.
Amongst the Tour du Valat’s contributions during the forum:
- Co-writing of an e-poster Protected Areas: a key tool for disaster risk reduction (more info [1])
- Co-presentation with Jena Optroniks of an e-poster on the SWOS Satellite-based Wetland Observation Service project on Sunday 4 September at 1 pm (more info [2])
- Participation in two Knowledge Cafés (in French) steered by the IUCN on Monday 5 September on « Nature et catastrophes naturelles, quelles mises en oeuvre ? » at 8.30 am (more info [3]) and « La nature, une solution pour réduire le risque de catastrophes naturelles » at 11 am (more info [4])
- Participation in the RAC/SPA event The Mediterranean Sea conservation efforts: Achievements and Challenges on Tuesday 6 September at 7.30 pm at the Oceans & Islands Pavillon (more info [5])
Through its active participation in this world congress the Tour du Valat carries on the work of Luc Hoffmann, who recently passed away after decades of action at the international level on conservation issues.
