The naturalist association Goupil Connexion was welcomed to the Tour du Valat on 4 January 2018, where it released several birds that had been injured and cared for in its “Wildlife Hospital” in the Hérault Department.

Two Common Buzzards, two Grey Herons, two White Storks, one Northern Lapwing, one Water Rail, and one Short-eared Owl could return to the sky at the Tour du Valat Regional Nature Reserve, which we hope will provide them with the right conditions for their return to the wild.

In the evening, representatives of the Association, who were accompanied by members of the Tour du Valat, were able to observe the return to their roost of several thousand Common Cranes currently staying near the hamlet of Le Sambuc.

Based north of Montpellier, since 1996 the association Goupil Connexion has been attempting to reconnect humans with the ‘common’ biodiversity in the Gard and Hérault Departments.

Its specific mission is to care for injured wildlife in its Garrigues Cévennes de Laroque Wildlife Hospital (Hérault), and then release them in their natural habitat. More than 2500 animals (80% birds) were cared for in 2017.

The Tour du Valat would like to thank the association Goupil Connexion for its actions for biodiversity and birds, and wishes a long life to its new “residents”!
