“Iraqi Marshes” wins first prize at the Ménigoute film festival

Directed by Aurélien Prudor, and with the participation of the Tour du Valat and other partners, the film Marshes of Iraq won first prize at the 2018 Ménigoute ornithology film festival, which was awarded by the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park.

This prize honours the best films highlighting the value of wetland natural resources (see the festival website [1] in French for more information and a presentation of the film).

Marshes of Iraq tells the story of the 2018 visit of a parliamentary commission to the marshes in southern Iraq, an emblematic wetland of major ecological, social, and cultural value, where a restoration programme has been implemented for fifteen years (find out more [2]).

The Tour du Valat’s Director General, Jean Jalbert, was a member of the commission and could thus share the Tour du Valat’s expertise on wetland restoration with the other members of the commission and local Iraqi partners.

Congratulations to Aurélien Prudor and all those who made this film a success!

The film is also available in English and Arabic, and a screening and discussion will be organised in the Camargue with the participation of the film crew in early 2019. This event will be announced on the Friends of the Tour du Valat [3] and Tour du Valat website and the social networks
