In this article, researchers from the Tour du Valat presented the evolution of anatidae wintering in the Camargue and gave some perspectives in the context of climate change.
They have recently created an animation showing the results of waterfowl aerial census carried out by the CNRS since 1976, and then taken over by the Tour du Valat, in partnership with the Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB) and the Syndicat Mixte de Camargue Gardoise (SMCG).
These raw numbers should be considered as indicative. Their interpretation in terms of trends, however, requires hindsight and further analysis. These figures can have large and variable margins of error depending on the meteorology, the species considered and the habitats.
These aspects are the subject of a thesis conducted by David Vallecillo [2], funded by the François Sommer Foundation.
