Le lundi 15 janvier 2018 à 11h, Bigna Steiner (Université de Bâle) présentera en salle Jean-Paul Taris un séminaire en anglais intitulé « Languedoc lagoon environments and man: building a modern analogue botanical macroremain database from Tour du Valat » ; l’entrée est libre et sans inscription.

Résumé : this project aims to reconstruct water agency in the sedimentation processes of the Etrusco-Roman port city of Lattara (Lattes, France), one of the most important commercial enclaves in the area during Antiquity (5th cent. BCE- 2nd cent. CE). For this, modern analogue botanical macroremains will be gathered from different wetland habitats in the Mediterranean wetland observatory Tour du Valat.

This pioneer work in lagoon environments will establish a methodology and compile the necessary reference data that can later be applied to many other coastal archaeological sites. It is the aim of this project that this methodology is always integrated in the archaeological evaluation of settlement dynamics and sedimentation processes in sites located in wetland environments.

This kind of approach will also make archaeological research target current questions regarding the impact of climate change in inhabited coastal areas.
